Life and Co. 101
Self-awareness. What is it? And how can we achieve more of it? Being self-aware seems like a simple concept, however it is very multi-faceted and on-going. One can never fully achieve perfection, as there is always room for personal growth and development. So what does it mean? Being self-aware involves having a clear perception of both your strengths and weaknesses. It is a clear awareness of your personality, thoughts, beliefs, and emotions. Believe it or not, being truly self-aware is far greater of an accomplishment then many understand. It takes strength, humility, the ability to be humble, compassion, kindness, and the ability to self-reflect truthfully.
So how does a person begin the journey to self-awareness? We will explore few ways in which you can begin to have a deeper understanding of your true authentic self, as this path is often one of great happiness, success, and achievement.
First off, one must learn to look at themselves objectively. Seems easy right? Wrong! Doing this involves being willing to look at your failures, flaws, and criticisms. This can be daunting. However, understanding such will allow you to have a better grasp on who you truly are and how to learn from these things instead of dwell on them. One must be willing to ask for feedback from friends, family, and coworkers. Seems kind scary right! But what better way is there to begin to take stock of area’s in your life that could be improved on? I mean, it’s called personal growth and development for a reason right! This is where being humble comes into play, we all have flaws and weaknesses, this does not make us less than!
One area that we encourage people to start opening their minds to is setting goals and priorities. It is simply amazing how thing’s come together when you actually have a clear, concrete plan in place. It is easy to say, I’m going to lose weight by Christmas, or I’m going to save money for a down payment. However, if there is nothing in place, your chance of success is severely lessened. Take the time to prioritize and break down your goals. Set a realistic time frame and get to work! You have the ability to achieve your dreams; you just have to put the work in! Setting goals and priorities will help immensely on your path to self-awareness because you will truly find out what you are actually capable and deserving of!
Thirdly, journal. Journaling has the power to connect your thoughts and feeling and vice versa. Allowing yourself to be vulnerable and “let it all out” on paper can do wonders for your soul. Often seeing things written on paper instead of thoughts swirling through your mind, can have you see things in a different perspective and ultimately lead to authenticity of self. We hear often people say things like, “we don’t know what to write”, or “how do I get started”. The answer is simple, the internet. There are hundreds of journal prompts available to help you begin expanding your mind on topics that will guide you towards a more genuine sense of self-awareness.
So to close this blog we simply say this, everybody has the ability for personal growth. It just takes the willingness to step out of comfort zones and try something different. So open yourself up, be vulnerable, do something for you today!
